Celebrating National Pet Month In Style
By Si Si Penaloza
First off, Get Leashed assumes all responsibility should your pup develop a taste for Chef Thomas Keller’s biscuits as a result of making this trip. While May happens to be National Pet Month, The Shops at Columbus Circle always welcome furry companions. Whether the pooch is big or small, as long as your best friend is on a leash, they are free to hang in all public areas (with the exception of the restaurants and Whole Foods Market).
Not only can any well-behaved pup join their human, but both dog and master can savor an indulgent treat at Bouchon Bakery & Cafe. Michelin-starred Chef, Thomas Keller, most notably known in New York for Per Se (which serves one of the city’s most expensive tasting menus), is taking his expertise for inciting appetites to the dogs. A chef the caliber of Keller baking up drool-worthy dog treats certainly takes canine cuisine up a notch. The beloved Bouchon caters to four-legged friends with foie gras dog biscuits. At $7 per package (7 biscuits in a package), you can’t put a price on friendship – though standard dog treats may no longer cut the mustard! The cafe also provides your four-legged gourmand with a fresh bowl of water to wash the biscuit down.
New Yorkers are known for their shrewd sense of creative street style, and this applies to their pets, too. The Shops at Columbus Circle provide multiple retail options for refreshing Fido’s wardrobe with the seasons. Coach features dog collars in an array of colors with a playful signature design accented with iconic hardware. Cool, puffy dog coats in bright, eye-catching hues (perfect for your dog’s Instagram feed, naturally) are available at Cole Haan, as well as summer-savvy, woven leather leashes. Lucky Brand is also clearly thinking along the lines of social media with their line up of embroidered, embossed, or whip-stitch dog collars and braided dog leashes.
The Shops at Columbus Circle, located in Time Warner Center in the heart of Manhattan, is an iconic public destination that attracts millions of people a year. The soaring 2.8 million-square-foot landmark with splashy views of Central Park positions Columbus Circle as a vital cultural portal to Manhattan’s posh Upper West Side. Featuring multiple Michelin-starred restaurants under one roof, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Mandarin Oriental, New York hotel, Whole Foods Market, Equinox Fitness Club and more than 50 retail stores, boutiques and pop-up activations, The Shops at Columbus Circle is the quintessential “only in New York” experience.
Where to Stay:
Poised at the very top of the Time Warner Center, the Mandarin Oriental, New York, offers the perfect base from which to explore the Big Apple. Kick back in 5-star luxury; the hotel is renowned for a celebrated restaurant, top notch service and a world-renowned spa.
Model Miranda Kerr is only one of many high profile guests favoring this pet-friendly urban oasis; her Yorkie enjoys all the comforts of home right in the hotel suite. Dogs up to 25 lbs can enjoy a Five-Star experience of their own with the hotel’s special pet program. Your dog will enjoy luxurious dog beds, food and water bowls, and training pads if needed.
The hotel’s spin on luxury has always been distinctly modern and international in scope. Last fall, the Mandarin Oriental, New York, debuted its 42 restyled one and two bedroom suites, featuring panoramic views of Central Park, the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline. Through curated partnerships that blend elements of art, culture, fashion and gastronomy, the suite experience has been enhanced with an array of exclusive amenities and programs.
The hotel’s Bedside Reading Program is a collaboration with award-winning New York-based fashion designer and avid reader Joseph Altuzarra of Altuzarra. Each suite features a selection of the designer’s favorite books which have inspired the collections for his women’s ready-to-wear brand over the years.
Suite guests are welcomed upon arrival with a Rodarte New York City Guide designed exclusively for the property by award-winning designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy, founders of the luxury clothing and accessories brand Rodarte. Created as both a functional map of Manhattan and also a collectible art piece, the Rodarte New York City Guide is a visualization of the discoveries and insights which have defined the designer duo’s city experiences.
To create an oasis of calm high above Manhattan, the hotel brings the spa experience into each suite through meditation. Enjoy a meditative moment looking out onto the city with plush DharmaCrafts meditation cushions, available in each of the suites. Best of all, guests of the new suites also receive complimentary access to The Spa’s extensive Heat Experiences featuring separate men’s and women’s oxygen-infused vitality pools, amethyst crystal steam rooms and experience showers.
The new suites celebrate New York City gastronomy with re-imagined welcome amenities and a signature cocktail program. After check-in, guests are presented with creative gourmet delights and an original house-made beverage ingredient inspired by their suite’s theme. This is accompanied by an invitation to MObar for a complimentary bespoke cocktail using the star ingredient.
