Nissan’s X-Trail 4Dogs Concept Gives Pet Parents A Better Ride

A Dog-Friendly Drive In Style

By Erin Kirkpatrick

Traditionally, car concepts have been designed with the average human in mind. Nissan’s X-Trail 4Dogs concept is definitely changing things up by specifically asking pet owners and pets what they want most from a car.

Imagine a practical car that boasts an array of dog-friendly features WITHOUT compromising aesthetics and style. I repeat WITHOUT compromising aesthetics and style. And, if Fido isn’t traveling with the family on a particular trip, all of the pet-oriented components – bed, no-spill water bowl, and treat dispenser – can be removed to free up room for other items.

This vehicle is ingenious.

The transformation of the X-Trail crossover, or the Rogue, as it’s referred to in North America into a dog-friendly car model will no doubt hit a sweet spot with pet owners and pets. In fact, the X-Trail 4Dogs was created after a survey of 1,300 dog owners showed that 90 percent of pet owners would purchase a dog-friendly car.

Give pet owners what they want!

The comfy bed, the mess-free water bowl, and the rewarding treat dispenser are all great additions, but the X-Trail 4Dogs ups the ante by offering pet owners features that will change the game. In an interview about the new release, experienced vet Dr. Rachel Homeny said,

“The features in the Nissan X-Trail 4Dogs are really well-considered, and make it perfect for taking pets out in all weathers.”

While only one of the pet-oriented features is available for purchase – the dog guard above the backseats – it’s hard not to be excited for this concept’s features.

Rain or shine, walks or trips to the dog park happen, although shine is always preferred. Sometimes, those muddy walks become muddy runs and eventually, muddy rolls.

Most owners have experienced the mud-covered dog versus their newly cleaned car scenario once…twice…too many times that they’ve stopped counting. Keeping mud outside is simple with the concept’s integrated pullout, 360 shower and dryer, and easy-to-clean, removable leather upholstery.

Tears. Of. Joy.

Two large clean dogs can fit comfortably in the back of the car, and if you have smaller doggies, then you’ll be able to accommodate more. The slide-out ramp allows for easy access in and out of cargo area and will save pet owners’ backs from future aches. Dogs will remain safe and secure while in motion with clip-on harness hooks.

If you’ve ever wondered what your dogs are doing when you’re not in front of them, you don’t have to wonder anymore. The concept has a “dog-cam” that broadcasts footage and audio through the vehicle’s entertainment system. A 7-inch dashboard display is available for drivers and passengers, and a 10-inch LCD screen built into the cargo area is available for dogs. Keep each other company on those long road trips — sing-a-long, anyone?!

All in all, the X-Trail 4Dogs offers features that make life easier and less messy for pet owners and their beloved four-legged family members. Chief Marketing Manager Ryan Gains said, “It’s clear from the research that for dog owners, dogs are a key part of the family. Ensuring their pet’s needs are catered for is often just as important as making sure the children are comfortable and happy.”

We could not agree more, and we will (im)patiently wait until this goes into production.
