WINE ESSENTIALS: THE ‘INS AND OUTS’ OF A NIGHT IN WITH PETS

Here’s what you need to ‘WINE DOWN’ after a long day!

By Erin Kirkpatrick

Going out is definitely a good time, but staying in is 100% a cozy time. Riiight when I’m about to go out for a night, I always wish that I could snuggle up on the couch with a glass of wine (I prefer local, like Niagara wineries), a book, a blanket, and a pet that belongs to my roommate (I’m basically an owner, though).

As I age — like a fine wine, I might add –, I’ve started to prefer staying in to going out. I’ve also started to perfect what’s essential for such an occasion – wines, appetizers, glasses, cheese boards, blankets, and the most important thing, the cozy outfit.

It is also super important to practice alcohol safety with pets when entertaining because “dogs have a terrible tolerance for alcohol so please be mindful of where you place your beer, wine or classy cocktail,” says Dr. Sheldon Jafine, Get Leashed’s Veterinarian-In-Residence.

Now, when I’m spending a night in with a pet companion, I have to be wary of wagging tails, wandering noses and mouths, and precariously placed paws. There are a variety of products available that can help you curb the wine and charcuterie casualties. RIP, beautiful aged cheddar and autumn Riesling.

Put on your comfiest pair of sweatpants, hop into your slippers, pour yourself a glass or bottle (shout out to those glasses that hold an entire bottle of wine), snuggle with your pet(s) and flip through these products that are absolutely essential for your next night in. I repeat they are absolutely essential.

Cheers to you and your pets!
