In Istanbul, a puppy caked with glue and dirt was found in a box. With so much debris stuck to him, he could barely move. Apparently, “just for fun,” some local kids took the puppy and doused him with glue and then covered him with dirt. Why would kids do such a horrible thing to an innocent animal? How could they think what they were doing was fun? There are so many questions, and unfortunately, there are not enough answers. He’Art of Rescue International found the puppy, now named Pascal, at a public shelter and took him in. They shared his discovery on their Facebook page, and his story went viral. Pascal’s situation touched the hearts of animal lovers all over the world. People from every country wanted to adopt this poor puppy and show him love and compassion.

Staff at He’Art of Rescue started the painstaking process of trying to peel the matted fur off the puppy. There was so much glue on his body it acted like cement, cutting circulation off to parts of his tiny body. After being starved of blood, one of Pascal’s ears became necrotic.

After hours of carefully shaving and cutting, they got most of the matted fur off Pascal. He was naked and shivering, but he was free from the cement-like casing previously covering his body.

He wasn’t out of the woods yet.

Pascal could not be discharged since he showed signs of Parvo disease. This viral infection impacts the intestines and causes vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, and lack of appetite. Doctors had to treat him for Parvo before he could be put up for adoption.

When he first came to the He’Art of Rescue, he was nervous around staff. But soon, he realized that they cared for him, and he started responding to their love. In addition to the Parvo diagnosis, his blood showed signs of anemia. So, once again, the doctors kept an eye on him.

After treating the Parvo and anemia, Pascal’s fur started growing back, and he could be found playing with staff and other puppies at the rescue.

Pascal stole the hearts of volunteers, vets, and those who followed his journey online.

His personality came out as his health improved, and he started showing more affection to people and dogs. Pascal was grateful for many things. Namely, that he no longer needed a vest to keep him warm, and he was able to move freely.

Finally, he found a home with a family in Spain and gained a dog brother named Can. He spends his weekends hiking or enjoying the beach.

Now, Pascal knows what it feels like to be loved unconditionally. Not only does he have love coming from his family in Spain, but he has also received it from all the people around the world who know his story. While the start of his life was tragic, good people found him, rescued him, and gave him two of the greatest gifts: love and a second chance at life.
