High Profile Personalities and the Dogs They Love

It’s good to be a fur baby to someone on the Forbes list

By Catalina Barrios

Can you name the richest pets?

Hollywood celebrities will always be on the radar of the paparazzi, and by extension, so will their pets. I’m not sure I would want a camera following me everywhere I go.  But, I must confess, I do like reading about celebrity lives; wow (!!) the extravagant luxuries given to their little fur balls are an envy.

Celebrities all over the world are proud of their animal companions and enjoy sharing photos with millions of followers. They also don’t mind dropping some of their millions on these fur babies. Check out a few of the highest earning celebrities that revel in pawrenthood.

This American actress, talk show host, entrepreneur, and philanthropist has a fortune worth over $2 billion. The Oprah Winfrey Show is the highest rated television program of its kind. It is no secret Oprah adores her five dogs: Luke, Layla, Sadie, Sunny and Lauren. She even set up a $30 million trust for them! But, something very interesting about Oprah as a pawrent is that she insists on doing the scoop of the poop herself? Yup. She says this is a job nobody else should have to do it.

As a member of the billionaire’s club with a net worth of $1.55 US billion, there are more perks to being the pup of a tech superstar than just the cash. Did you know: the first photo ever uploaded to Instagram was of co-founder Kevin’s dog Dolly?! The Golden Retriever is social media royalty. Their handles? @kevin and @dolly. It pays to be an early adopter.

In 2015, according to the American Kennel Club, there were only 83 Puli registered in the United States. Did you know that the name Puli comes from the term “Puli Hou” which means “Hun Destroyer?”  In case you wanted to know, the plural of Puli is Pulik.

I had to make sure my favorite talk show host was included on this list!  This would be American comedian, talk show host, writer, producer and LGBT activist, Ellen Degeneres.  She made the list of Forbes’ Highest Paid TV Hosts, earning $77 million last year. Ellen has been an animal lover for many years. She even has her own line of pet toys, accessories and gifts, which can be found at PetSmart.  Ellen DeGeneres has three dogs (Wolf, Augie and Kid) and three cats (Charlie, George and Chairman).
