Born in Toronto Canada Jon lived in the area throughout his formative years but later moved with his family to England where he prepped at Oakhyrst Grange in Caterham, Surrey before returning to Canada to attend high school at Oakville Trafalgar. During this time, he helped pioneer the acceptance of
snowboarding and was a competitive member of the first Canadian Snowboard tour.
It was then that Jon first successfully pursued his entrepreneurial and creative spirit taking six months off during his senior year of high school to start the skate and snowboard street wear clothing company Global Syndicate before focusing on a career in the entertainment industry.
Pursing this objective Jon attended York University graduating with an honors Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Film and Television where he parlayed a summer internship at Canada’s # 1 kids TV channel, YTV, into the start of a career in the entertainment industry as a producer and director for the award-winning YTV News.
In his early twenties, Jon relocated to Los Angeles where he attended the UCLA Graduate School of Film and Television and worked in feature film development for Academy Award winning Hollywood icons Sean Connery and producer Dino De Laurentis while also pursuing his own entrepreneurial entertainment projects.
Returning to Canada in the late nineties Jon formed Graham Media, an entertainment consulting and production company, where he provided full time consulting services to Canadian media giant Corus Entertainment. Jon later joined the Corus Television Group as Special Projects Manager where he helped develop and launch several TV channels including music channel Edge TV and also co-developed Mojo Radio, the world’s first “radio station for guys” which launched successfully in Toronto.
Jon then moved to world renowned Canadian animation producer Nelvana to set-up the company’s Brand Management and Marketing division, helping to reposition the company from a television producer to a creator of global entertainment brands. Continuing at Nelvana, Jon oversaw Marketing and Global Brand Management for the company’s key properties. His successes included Medabots which was successfully launched as the # 1 TV program in the US for Boys along with a thriving merchandising line and Beyblade, which under Jon’s direction became one of the most successful kids licensed entertainment properties ever, generating over US$ 1 Billion in global merchandising sales. Additionally, while at Nelvana, Jon produced and was the Creative Executive on the highly rated Beyblade: Behind the Revolution TV special and the Japanese-Taiwanese Anime co-production Pandalian in addition to receiving credits on several video games by Natsume and Atari.
In 2005 Jon joined MTV Networks International as Director of Marketing and International Partnerships Canada for the Nickelodeon division, where as the sole Canadian employee, he oversaw the growth of key Nickelodeon brands including the multi-award winning SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer. In 2009 Jon’s role was expanded to include Canadian oversight of MTV, the world’s premier youth entertainment brand and cultural home of the millennial generation, as Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Partnerships Canada. Then, based on continued success and growth of MTV Networks businesses in Canada, Jon was promoted to Vice President and General Manager where he took on full management of all Viacom International Media Networks businesses within Canada including Broadcast, Licensing, Digital Media and Consumer Products for the MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon brands, a role he continues in to this day.
Additionally, Jon is an active member of both the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
