It’s pretty cool when a small, niche business takes off. Even cooler when that business was founded by a young, vibrant, super hip person that you can’t help but want to be friends with. We got to know the founder of the booming WAXON™ Waxbar, Lexi Miles and her adorably fluffy Coton de Tulear, CeCe, at their gorgeous Toronto home.

Tell us about yourself:

I am the Founder of WAXON™ Waxbar. We have four locations in Toronto and we are growing, with one location opening this month in Halifax. My routine changes every day, which I love. No matter what, I try to start or finish my day with a workout; it clears my mind and I usually get my most creative ideas at the gym!

My favorite part of my job would have to be the stage I’m at now, focusing on expansion and opening new WAXON™ Waxbar locations!

A bit about your pet:

CeCe is a Coton de Tulear. She was born in Mesa, Arizona, which is probably why she loves the sun! Her hobbies are chilling in the sun (she will find the only ray shining through the window to lay in), swimming and sleeping. Her sleeping habits are unlike any other dog I’ve ever known—they are the complete opposite of mine. She sleeps on a pillow above my head every night and I literally have to wake her up every day. On weekdays, I’ll wake her up on my schedule, usually around 8 am. On weekends she could easily sleep until 11 am after a late night.

CeCe is an incredibly affectionate dog. She is completely content and happy as long as she is around me, which works well since I’m fortunate enough to work from home a lot. I also bring her by our WAXON™ Waxbar office to hang out during our WAXON™ meetings. She’s a great addition to our team!

What’s your ideal weekend look like?

My ideal weekend starts with a spin class at Ultimate Athletics and then CeCe and I will run errands together on our walk around our neighborhood, Summerhill. CeCe isn’t really a park kind of gal; she prefers shopping in Yorkville and for some reason loves strolling through the aisles at Canadian Tire. Our ideal night concludes with me actually cooking dinner (a rare occasion) and catching up on missed TV shows from the week, or having dinner and drinks with friends.

Describe your style:

Business casual chic. I can usually be found sporting jeans, a jacket, heels (always) and an accessory of some sort to add a little pop! I like to be individually trendy but never too over-the-top glitz and glam.

What inspires you?

Generally, I find successful Women Entrepreneurs to be incredibly inspiring. Personally, I believe you should never settle or compromise on your dreams. I believe you can achieve almost anything if you work really, really hard at it.

How would you describe the look & feel of your home?

My home style is quite similar to my personal style: trendy, chic and welcoming. I tend to lean towards sleek modern lines and love to accessorize with pops of color.

Although most people shy away from a home office that reminds them of work, I find it very stimulating to surround myself with everything WAXON while I work.

A relationship-defining pet story:IMG_0027

We were in Arizona, after I had just brought CeCe home at 8 weeks old. It was February and believe it or not, it was even chilly in Arizona. The pool in particular was freezing! We were running around in the backyard together and CeCe, being the daredevil that she is, decided to jump across a corner of pool. She almost cleared the gap, but slipped into the freezing water and didn’t know how to swim. Stunned by the cold water, she just started sinking. I launched in, grabbed her and held her tight trying to warm her up as she cried. I thought even the sight of water would traumatize her forever, but sure enough it is now actually one of her favorite hobbies.
