Kim Pacht

Big smiles with one lovely lady and two dogs full of talent and tricks

By the Get Leashed Doggy Style team

We love it when people want to show off their dogs’ talents. Tricks are a symbol of a bond between people and pets; a willingness to learn and a determination to communicate over a bigger idea. What we love even more is when dogs are so eager that we can literally see them smiling through their little performances. Kim Pacht has one of the biggest and brightest smiles we’ve photographed to date, but what makes this feature special is her adorable dogs’ respective grins that go along with her own. Kim is recently engaged and along with a special connection between her, her fiancé, and their dogs, there are stories tied into this relationship that would warm any dog lover’s heart.

We’ll leave it to Kim to share some of these stories and a bit more about her lifestyle…

Please tell us about yourself:

I am an occupational therapist who rehabilitates car accident victims with spinal cord injuries and severe brain injuries. I help enable my clients to get back to the activities that provide them with meaning and satisfaction in their lives. There is nothing more rewarding than my job as an occupational therapist.

The biggest asset in my life is my fiancé, David. David enables me to carry out my biggest passions in life, which include cooking, working out, painting, and spending quality time with our dogs, family and friends. Our families are so important to us, and we cherish every minute with them.

On a daily basis, David and I love to go on long and adventurous walks with our two adorable pups, Hudson and Sophie. They are a huge part of our lives. My absolute favorite activity is going for a long walk, venturing out into the city, and stopping somewhere to eat delicious food (specifically chocolate cake!)

A bit about your pets:

Sophie is an 8-year-old Brussels Griffon from Kansas City. My sister, Ashley, inspired me to get this breed. Sophie is quirky, expressive, and extremely intelligent. She can also be very stubborn! She will try her best to avoid stepping in puddles, or getting her paws dirty. I love Sophie because she adjusts to my lifestyle – if I want to go for a run, she will join me, or if I want to cuddle and watch TV all day, she is down for that too. As long as I am near, she is content.

Hudson is a 6-year-old Minature Labradoodle from Texas. My fiancé, David, chose this breed because he wanted an intelligent, hypoallergenic, family-oriented dog. Hudson may be stubby and have an underbite, but he is the sweetest, friendliest, and most loveable dog. Hudson loves to swim, get dirty, and chase his ball all day long.

Sophie despised Hudson when he was a puppy, but now they are inseparable. They are a match made in heaven – just like David and I!

What does your ideal weekend look like?

My favorite weekend itinerary would include going for a long hike with David, Hudson and Sophie at the Brickworks. Afterwards, we would enjoy a delicious breakfast at Café Belong on the patio. My weekend would not be complete without a great spinning class at Rocket Cycle. Lastly, my weekend would include spending quality time with my family and close friends — exploring new and unique restaurants and drinking a delicious glass of red wine are a must! At the end of the day on Sunday, I would walk to “my office,” Starbucks, where I get organized and prepared for my clients the following week while drinking my non-fat, extra foamy latte.

Describe your personal style:

During the days, I wear comfortable and athletic attire. I am either on the road seeing clients or walking my dogs. Otherwise, I am wearing my favorite ripped blue jeans and a cozy knit sweater. I also like to accessorize my outfit by wearing my Blue Jays baseball cap backwards. I would say that I dress comfortably and stylishly. Photo 2015-05-27, 3 31 33 PM

What inspires you?

Two famous people that inspire me are Ellen Degeneres and Oprah Winfrey. I love their selfless nature and how they generously give back to the community. My fiancé, David is my true inspiration. If it wasn’t for him, I probably would not have finished university, nor gone on to get my Master’s Degree. He motivates me to be the best I can be, and live life the way I want to live it. My favorite quote is “Be the change you want to see in the world” by Gandhi. I try to live by this quote every day.

How would you describe the look and feel of your home?

Our home is full of fun. It may not be the most stylish house, but it is a house full of passions. David is passionate about building computers, playing guitar, taking pictures, and watching baseball games with a cold beer. The most important feature of our house is our backyard and patio. The dogs sunbathe outside while we barbeque steaks for dinner. Our home is comfortable and livable.

Please share a pet story:

I have a special story to share about Hudson – he played a very integral part in helping my fiancé propose to me this past spring. I went to meet David in the ravine for a dog walk, and I saw the hill covered with pink and white rose petals. When I gazed up the hill, I saw Hudson sitting at the top of the hill with a sign saying, “Will you marry my Daddy?” David definitely knows how to steal my heart away!

Sophie is hilarious and quirky. She almost acts like a human. I cannot think of just one story of Sophie that I love; I just love her! For example, if there was a feather floating on the ground, she would jump back and forth, scared, excited and curious all at the same time. She will try to use her paws to scratch at the feather, but then, as soon as it moves, she jumps back, having no idea how it moved. Sophie makes me laugh every day, which provides me with so much joy in life.
