The Town Barber owner, his lovely lady, and the most charming shop dog you’ll ever meet!
By the Get Leashed Doggy Style team
Just off of the booming Ossington strip in Toronto lies a barber that fits right into the neighborhood. Tattooed staff and patrons breathe a super cool vibe into this old fashioned shop. The well-designed interior mixes a new, ultra hip feel with antique flare, the result of which is a place a man can feel like he’ll get a good haircut before he even sits in the chair. Of course, the barbers all live up to look.
Chris has put something unique together and it’s no doubt that Town Barber is at the top of the list for popular places to get a haircut. Of course, our favorite part of the shop is Jorge the dog. This mutt ties together the look and feel of what Chris has created. He’s fun to look at – sturdy and tough but beautiful and warm. You could hang out with Jorge all day – just like Town Barber has an atmosphere you could spend a lot of time in. He’s friendly and trusting too – big steps for an adopted rescue dog and a testament to Chris and Danielle’s efforts in raising him with lots of love.
Jorge’s mum, Danielle, owns LoversLand, a bridal and fashion shop just down the road. They carry everything from gifts for a significant other to gifts for bridesmaids and groomsman to accessories for the special day. Sometimes Jorge hangs out there as well but we found him at Town Barber and we’re sure he wouldn’t mind us saying he fits the mold there more than anywhere else. Though his sweet side makes sense in Lovers Land too.
We got Chris to tell us a bit more about Town Barber, Danielle, and Jorge the gorgeous dog…
Please tell us about yourself:
I’m a Barber. I own a shop called Town Barber. I love the social aspect of the job. It never feels like work ‘cause I’m always just hanging out with my friends. I get to meet all kinds of people and shoot the shit all day. Danielle owns a shop called LoversLand. It”s a bridal and fashion shop. Our shops are a block from each other and we live in the neighborhood so it’s perfect for Jorge to come to work with us. Most days he comes to the Barbershop but sometimes flirts his way into LoversLand.
A bit about your pet:
Jorge is a weird mutt. He was a rescue that came up from North Carolina and needed a good loving home. Our dog Louis had just passed away and we didn’t think we were ready for another dog, until we locked eyes with Jorge and knew it was meant to be.
What does your ideal weekend look like?
We’re very active. We run with the Parkdale road runners, and Jorge usually joins us. He loves to run with the crew and usually pulls his way to the front of the pack. We’re both very involved in our small businesses and Jorge loves to come along wherever that takes us. We go to a lot of coffee shops and other businesses and it seems more people know Jorge than us.
Describe your personal style:
I’ve always been a punk rock kid. I guess my style is doing whatever I want and never growing up.
What inspires you?
The people around me inspire me. Trying to live by the Bad Brains (punk band) mantra, PMA, which stands for positive mental attitude, has been very important these past few years. Get negative people out of your life and only hang with people who inspire you.
How would you describe the look and feel of your shop?
Town Barber is where I spend most of my time, so it’s nice to have somewhere I can keep all the stuff that Danielle doesn’t want in the house anymore. I’m very well-traveled and have collected bits and pieces along the way and it’s great to have a place where I can enjoy looking at them all day.
A story about Jorge:
I knew it was love at first sight the second I saw Jorge. He put his face in my hands and I burst out in tears. I could tell he had a rough life behind him and I was dealing with some rough shit at the time too. Jorge does as much for us as we do for him.
