A man of good taste and Alfred the Cockapoo
By the Get Leashed Doggy Style team
A lot of people think that if they live in the city, they shouldn’t own a dog. Excuses range from not enough space to not enough time. While it’s true that dogs deserve a lot of both, there are ways around it and most of us dog lovers know that a bit of a sacrifice to the bank account (for dog walkers) or a bit of a sacrifice to a personal life (to be home more) is well worth the love only a dog can give us.
For Dana Erickson, moving into a new place with access to a couple large, dog-friendly parks sealed the deal and he got the dog him and his girlfriend wanted in their lives. Plus, he gets to work from home a lot so Alfred (an adorable pup with a distinguished look about him) is able to receive all the attention a dog could want.
Dana really makes city life with a dog look good. We’ll leave it to him to expand on it a bit more…
Please tell us a little bit about yourself:
I’m a Specialty Portfolio Manager in downtown Toronto at Labatt Breweries of Canada. My favorite part of my job is being out on the road, meeting new people and customers. I love sales and enjoy teaching people about our brands. I enjoy working out and running, playing basketball and golf. I have a healthy work-life balance. I love working and being active, but I also enjoy being at home and relaxing.
A bit about Alfred the dog:
My dog’s name is Alfred. He is a Cockapoo. We decided to get Alfred because we now live in a part of Toronto with immediate access to a large park that has a dog park. We both had dogs growing up – I had a Scottish terrier — and always wanted to have a dog, but wanted to make sure it was the right fit. Alfred fits our personality because he is a very calm, caring puppy with a playful side. He will lie around with you if you’re feeling lazy or he will go for a run with you if you feel like being active. He loves meeting new people and will sit and wait for passerby to say hello and pet him before continuing his walks.
What does your ideal weekend look like?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. As an avid sports fan, I’ve been to several Jays games this season. I also like going for runs, going to Toronto Island, going on picnics in High Park and visiting the dog park in Stanley Park. We have gone to Rustic on King West a few times because Alfred can sit just outside the patio and enjoy the outing with us.
Describe your personal style:
Active, outgoing and laid-back.
What inspires you?
A book that inspires me is The Four Agreements. I try to be a positive person, because I believe in the law of attraction. Think and act positively and good things will happen around you.
How would you describe the look and feel of your home?
Sophisticated, welcoming, calm and peaceful.
A story about Alfred:
Alfred is a very loving and curious pup. He is extremely smart and was very easy to train. It only took a few minutes to teach him how to sit, lay down, paw and give high five. His favorite trick is ‘give a paw.’ A funny thing that Alfred does is he will often walk up to you, sit in front of you and offer his paw in hopes to get a treat in return.
