There’s Something About Gary

The Star Wars series is no stranger to the #AwCute factor – the first R2D2, followed by Wicket the Ewok. George Lucas cunningly plays to the children’s action figure market without dumbing down his saga – Jar Jar Binks would be the only exception.
An unlikely new hero of the galaxy has been born this week – Gary Fisher, the brindle French bulldog of original Star Wars cast member Carrie Fisher. It’s been wall-to-wall Star Wars mania lately with the latest installment, The Force Awakens, hitting theaters nationwide on Friday, December 18. Through the glut of junkets and red carpets, one tongue has the media wagging more than any fresh, nubile young Hollywood face – sorry Daisy Ridley and John Boyega – and that’s Gary!

Gary has been making the rounds alongside his famous mom as she promotes the highly anticipated J.J Abrams–directed film. Gary and his ever-hanging tongue have caused quite the stir on social media, inspiring several Twitter accounts and even his own Instagram, which is jumping with new followers by the minute.
Gary is so freaking adorable that no one even cares if he can hold his frenchie droppings. On December 3, he accompanied Fisher to the set of Live With Kelly and Michael, where he proceeded to poop in studio. “He can poop on our floor anytime!,” Kelly Ripa said. “Seriously, I didn’t mind it at all.” When asked about his curious tongue, Princess Leia herself explained to riveted co-hosts Kelly and Michael, “He does have a very long tongue. It’s not his fault. It’s one and a half times too big.”
Turns out Gary does more than win hearts and minds on the Internet, he is Fisher’s accredited therapy dog; he helps her manage her bipolar disorder. “Gary is mental also. My mother says Gary is a hooligan. Gary is like my heart,” Fisher told The Herald Tribune. “Gary is very devoted to me and that calms me down. He’s anxious when he’s away from me.”
To celebrate the Los Angeles premiere of The Force Awakens, Gary wore a headband with Princess Leia buns on his personal Instagram page. The Internet predictably exploded with love for this now infamous frenchie. Note to the Fast and Furious franchise, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will have to seriously BRING IT with his frenchie to top this one.
