The Digital Strategist and Her Senior Dog Bosley
By The Get Leashed Doggy Style Team
The most wonderful gift we could ask for is for our beloved pets to live a long and happy life. Lindsay has had her yellow lab, Bosley, for 13 love filled years. While Bos isn’t able to accompany Lindsay on her running route any longer, he still brings joy to her life every day. As he ages, their lifestyle has to adjust, but Lindsay is happy to cater to her bestie. He sometimes feels most comfortable in a ThunderShirt, designed to calm a dog’s anxiety. With Lindsay’s warm and outgoing personality, they are a great team. Get to know this sweet pup and his mom Lindsay below.
Please tell us about yourself, your profession, and what a typical work day is like.
I’m originally from Muskoka, but have been living in Toronto for 20 years. My family lives up there and I have the privilege of going up to visit a lot and enjoy escaping the city.
I’m a digital strategist at an agency in the city. My job is to find the best digital solution for clients and brands to interact with their customers. My typical work day always starts off with a Bos walk around the neighborhood, and then I usually grab a coffee at Simit & Chai and head to Stanley Park. Then I go for a run down by the waterfront or workout before heading off to the office. After work I come home to take Bos out. He used to have a dog walker (the best dog walkers actually, Ange and Alex of They Walk Dogs) but he’s older now and can’t get around like when he was younger, plus he doesn’t need as much exercise so he’s good with our walks. I love to cook, so I’ll make dinner for myself or have friends over. Then binge watch a few episodes of something – I’m loving The Get Down right now -or read before bed.
Please tell us a bit about your pup. How did he come into your life? Is there a story behind the name or particular breed?
My family has always had dogs, Retrievers, either Labs or Goldens. I really missed having a dog when I was out on my own so I got Bosley. I named him after John Bosley from Charlie’s Angels who was sweet, friendly and always looked out for the Angels. He was 7 weeks old when I brought him home and was so little and shy but that soon changed! He grew so fast and quickly turned into a ball of non-stop energy and basically stayed that way until he was about 10. It was bananas! In addition to being energetic he is also anxious and a tad OCD. Do NOT give him a tennis ball; he will never give it back, not even for treats! He’s now a week away from his 13th birthday and has become much more chill in terms of energy level as an older dog. He’s still anxious but he’s Bos and I love him just the way he is.
How would you describe your personal style?
I usually choose to wear clothes that reflect how I’m feeling or my mood. Sometimes that’s high top sneakers, skinny jeans and an over-sized sweatshirt, other times it’s a cute skirt with a blouse and heels. I love pop culture and I’m pretty nostalgic so I have lots of vintage pieces that I like to incorporate in a casual bohemian way. Band tees, my Doc’s from high school, jewelry that belonged to my mom, purses and shoes that were my grandmother’s and other great finds I’ve picked up in my travels all mixed with new more modern pieces.
How would you describe the look and feel of your home?
Modern mid-century meets whimsical nostalgia. I like to keep my space pretty neat and un-cluttered. In a small condo that means to only have things that I LOVE including art, books and furniture that mean something to me. My grandmother collected antiques and I have some great pieces from her including my 60’s walnut dinning table and chairs. I love that I grew up sitting at that table sharing meals with my family and now I get to do that with my friends. I love to travel so having keepsakes and images of some of my favorite places around me let’s me escape back to those travel adventures. I also love pop culture and have collected some fun art of my favorite movie and TV shows. My space is very reflective of my personality.
What does your ideal weekend look like?
I love to sleep in on weekends but Bosley isn’t really a fan so I usually get up early, walk him and grab coffee. Then I go to a yoga class before grabbing some brunch; one of my favorite things about living in Toronto is the endless supply of amazing restaurants. If we’re in the city and it’s nice out we’ll go to a park and chill out and read, or maybe hang with friends. I really love weekends in Muskoka and Bos does too. We love to escape the city to go for a swim in the lake, walk in the woods, have a glass of wine on the dock and just enjoy the calmness of being in nature and hanging out with my family.
What inspires you?
Authenticity and positivity inspire me the most. People who choose to be kind, look at life with a focus on the positive and be true to themselves are really inspiring to me. I think it’s so easy to be negative, keeping an open mind and being positive is much harder but so much more enjoyable and rewarding!
Finally, can you leave us with a funny story about Bosley?
There isn’t really one thing in particular, but because of his anxious nature Bosley has behaviors that make him special: Bos-isms. He does this half jump/tap dance maneuver when he’s excited. He knows he’s not allowed to jump up but he’s so excited so he does this hilarious mini jump from side to side. My friends impersonate this move when greeting him so then they’re both doing this little dance in my doorway. It’s his little thing. He also will get stuck in doorways and hallways. He’ll start out just walking along and then for some reason, just stop and get stuck, it’s not a physical thing just more of a mental block. He usually ends up turning around and walking backwards through. He’s always been that way so I just go with it. He’s such a sweetheart.
