Rancourt Winery

One of the tiniest operations in the region, Rancourt is charming and inviting, but do not let their size fool you; they still bring big body when it comes to their wines. You may come for the Cab Franc, but stay for Kruise, the winery dog, affectionately referred to as the ‘cellar rat’.  People from as far as Japan book tastings for the chance to meet this Teddy Face Pomeranian – seriously, he even has his own calendar.

Small quantities of high quality has always been the focus at Rancourt. Situated on 25 acres, all of their wines are VQA (Vitners Quality Alliance) and made from classic grapes, 100% grown in their own vineyard.

Book in advance as the tastings fill up fast. The private room can accommodate up to 48 people.

Come to Rancourt for:

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Riesling and Chardonnay.

Rosewood Estates Winery

One of the most inventive wineries in the region, Rosewood is a family operation focused on their passion for great wines and honey, making excellent products which are environmentally and socially conscious. Not only are they dog-friendly, but you will also likely be greeted by Millie, the winery’s Collie who keeps a watch on all the goings on.

The Rosewood story dates back over 80 years ago, when the founder’s father was a beekeeper and mead maker in the Ukraine. After honeymooning in Niagara-on-the-Lake, son Eugene Roman and his wife fell in love with the region, and promised to one day build a winery together there. Inspired by his father’s passion, Rosewood continued the tradition of mead and honey, and now boasts a talented team of passionate wine lovers.

Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Mead, and Honey

Featherstone Estate Winery

Another must-see is Featherstone, a husband and wife operated winery that has been certified insecticide free since 1999. They have won the honor of Grape King, an award for the most outstanding grape grower in Ontario, and boast some of the oldest Riesling vines in all of the region. Like Rosewood, the folks at Featherstone are passionate about more than just wine, and offer one of the most unique winery tours in Canada with their winery sheep. Employing possible the cutest winery hands ever, Featherstone has borrowed a technique that is commonplace in New Zealand where a flock of sheep eat their way through grape leaves that need to be removed from fruiting zones, leaving a smaller ecological “hoof-print” than other operations.

Possibly the best element surrounding Featherstone is their annual Muddy Paws Wine Festival hosted each July alongside Vineland Estates Winery. This dog-friendly, ticketed event not only brings wine lovers together for some fabulous tasting, but also raises funds for National Service Dogs of Canada. With a jazz band, wines by the glass, chefs, and special baked dog treats on hand, the event is a sellout each year.

Come to Featherstone for:

Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Rosé, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc
