Dolce and Tisci; two names synonymous with high fashion. Of course, we’re talking about dog fashion, and the ever so stylish Pomeranian and Italian Greyhound duo based in Toronto. As it turns out, their parents, M.J. and Peter, are every bit as cool as their canines. Read below to learn more about this squad and count the doggie outfit changes.

Please tell us about yourself, your profession, and what a typical work day is like:

M.J. – I was an Operations Support professional for an advertising agency until Fall 2014 when my career was put on hold due to a brain injury, which resulted in me developing Fibromyalgia, which was diagnosed Summer 2015. Since then, I’ve been focused on my health journey and starting a Lifestyle Blog.

Peter – Peter is a Retail Management professional currently working with Mackage, a Canadian outwear brand. Peter has a long background in the retail industry with a focus on personal styling, visual merchandising and people management. He’s also a DJ + music producer, working with House + Techno, and began DJing over 10 years ago.

Please tell us a bit about your dogs. How did they come into your life? Is there a story behind the names or particular breeds?

Dolce (full name Dolce IV) is our Pomeranian and she’s 7. M.J. got her from a breeder in 2010, before we got together. I went to see a litter of Pomeranian Pups and when I arrived, Dolce (whose original name was Quattro) and I bonded immediately. She wouldn’t leave my side and stayed with me the whole visit. I left with the intention of returning a week later to put a deposit down on a puppy. When I came back, the owner told me how Dolce cried when I left and offered to sell me her instead. They always say you don’t choose the dog, the dog chooses you. The breeder was expecting her first child and was relocating to the U.S. for her husband’s job. Her intention was to breed Dolce once, have her litter and then sell her to me in January. However, by mid-October Dolce hadn’t come into season and couldn’t be bred, so I received an early Christmas gift, and Dolce joined my family that November.

Tisci (full name Riccardo Tisci) is our Italian Greyhound, and he’s just over a year old. We never really thought about getting an Iggy at first; it was always decided that we’d get another Pomeranian. After my injury and once I had settled a bit into my new normal, we wanted to get a puppy as a therapy tool for me. Although Dolce is my best friend, she’s a very independent dog, almost cat like. We wanted an addition to our family that would give me routine, keep me and Dolce company and keep me active. Our friends who own Rascals and Bones (@rascalsandbones) Dog Walking + Boarding were watching an Italian Greyhound, and he and Dolce took quite well to each other. From that moment on, Peter was obsessed with the breed and we spent our time researching to make sure the breed would fit our lifestyle. Once we knew what we were getting into it was decided that any Italian Greyhound was what we wanted, and we were so thankful we got Tisci!

How would you describe your personal style?

M.J. – I always hate this question (lol) but I guess words I’d use to describe my style are casual, edgy and chic. I tend to stick with neutral colors: whites, greys, black; I’m almost always in black. For the most part I stick with casual athleisure wear because I’m not always feeling great and I want to be comfortable. When I’m having a good day or need to be a bit more put together, you’ll probably find me in a t-shirt and high-waisted jeans with a black boot; I like easy yet chic.

Peter – My style is minimal-contemporary with a little bit of Rock & Roll. I like to keep it simple: T-shirt, skinny jeans & boots, always neutral colors.

How would you describe the look and feel of your home?

I’d say the style of our home is modern-eclectic. We kept the entire color scheme black, white & grey while adding color with plants and other greenery. We like mixing solids with simple patterns like stripes or marble. We just moved towards the end of 2016 so we are still refreshing the decor from our previous home to fit the look and feel of our new one. The one thing we can’t live without is candles, usually in spicy masculine scents like vanilla, sandalwood and leather.

What does your ideal weekend look like?

Our ideal weekend involves starting our day off with an adventure with the dogs, whether it’s grabbing a coffee and walking around the city or going to a local park. Our evening activities vary; we’re either out to eat at restaurants followed by drinks at a King Street lounge or hosting friends at home for drinks and appetizers. Sunday nights are usually reserved for date night in, with a home cooked meal, movie and snuggles on the couch.

What inspires you?

It might sound cliche, but I think first and foremost we inspire each other; our work ethic, ambition, determination, that’s what drew us to each other. We’re very fortunate to not only have a love, but a friendship as our foundation as well as a business relationship. We’re always bouncing thoughts and ideas off of each other whether its for work or personal development, and pushing each other to do more.

Finally, can you leave us with a funny story about Dolce or Tisci?

We don’t really have a funny story, but their dynamic in general is a pretty funny one. When Tisci isn’t chasing Dolce to play (and Dolce hiding under the couch lol), they’re snuggling. But every once in a while, Dolce starts antagonizing Tisci to play. Dolce is always excited to meet new people while Tisci is usually quite timid (and vocal lol). They balance each other out nicely.
