Please tell us about yourself, your profession, and what a typical work day is like.

I’m a busy mom to three babies (my toddler, newborn, and furbaby), and I’m always trying to balance my jam-packed schedule of raising my kids, growing my business, and managing my clinical practice and special projects. A typical day for me usually starts as early at 5:30am and consists of a combination of nursing my newborn, walking the dog, getting my toddler ready, reading emails, charting, checking in on social media, fitting in a few meetings when able, and dedicating approximately 4-5 hours of just seeing patients. My practice includes a diverse group of patients, ranging from local Torontonians to Fortune 500 executives, amateur to professional athletes, notable celebrities, and dedicated visitors from all over the nation and globe.

Please tell us a bit about Raja. How did he come into your life? Is there a story behind the name or particular breed?

Raja has a special place in my heart and came into my life approximately 10 years ago, after I had started practicing and realized I had more time in my life to care for a pup. At that time my sister was also interested in raising a puppy, so together, we started searching different breeds and breeders. It wasn’t long after we came across two beautiful Maltese puppies, who were brother and sister, so we decided to just “take a look.” Well, that turned into a car ride home with two puppies that we were completely unprepared for. We instantly fell in love with them when we saw these two, and Raja picked me when he marked his territory on me when I carried him. That’s how we both knew it was love at first sight! We decided on naming them Raja and Rani, in Hindi it means King & Queen. Although they’re siblings, we felt that the names were completely fitting of their personalities, as they had taken over our households within days!

As a busy working mom and dog mom, do you have any tips for keeping it all together in balance?

I definitely think finding balance is a constant work in progress, as life is always going to throw you curveballs that you’re never prepared for. For me, after recently having a baby, I had to adjust to a whole other new change in my life while juggling my business and still caring for my toddler. There were definitely ups and downs, and I found taking it one day at a time really helped me. The best advice I have for any busy “Boss Moms” is to ensure you keep a schedule in written form. I was guilty of trying to memorize my meetings and commitments, which often worked for me in the past, but these days I have legitimate baby brain!

Introducing animals and babies can be tricky. How have your children taken to Raja?

My children love Raja, and my newborn still thinks he’s just a furry white toy! I am lucky that Raja is an extremely passive, timid, and shy guy who has never even figured out how to growl once in his entire life. He’s playful with them, which I love, and I have never felt afraid to leave my children alone with him.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style these days is mixed, as I’m still working on loving my new post-baby body. Things are different and that’s okay, and although I’m slowly working to get back to better health, I try not to let it get me down. So bringing that back to my personal style, I find I can be a mix between casual and dressy inspired by modern and classic looks. I have never been on top of trends too much, but I love accessories and my wardrobe is always complimented with a robust selection of bold and glamorous jewelry.

How would you describe the look and feel of your home?

My home is definitely warm with a modern and earthy feel. It’s my sanctuary and although it can feel small with the kids and Raja, I feel the most productive and peaceful when I’m at home.

What does your ideal weekend look like?

My ideal weekend is both kids sleeping in, so I can get caught up on some much-needed rest, followed by fun family activities and hitting up some of my favourite restaurants or catching up with family and friends.

What inspires you?

I am constantly inspired by all the incredible women who are wonderful and committed mothers to their children. Women who also run successful businesses and who can still get glammed up and have a great night out to maintain their social life when their babies are asleep!

Finally, can you leave us with a funny story about Raja?

At the time it was quite scary, but now looking back, it’s quite the funny story. We had just moved into our new condo and although we had kept a lot of our old furniture and brought over all of Raja’s belongings, he was having quite a lot of anxiety. After a few days of being off work, we had to go back. One day, I came home on my lunch break to surprise Raja with an afternoon walk. I normally never need to call for him, as the sound of the keys is normally enough for him to come running to the door. I heard silence, so I figured he fell asleep in our room. I proceeded to check the condo, but I couldn’t see him anywhere.

Now panic sinks in, I start calling for him, crouching to the ground, and tapping the floor. Silence.

My heart is racing. I run out into my condo hallway and was tempted to knock on all the doors of my neighbors — who haven’t even met me! I start calling my husband frantically to tell him Raja had been stolen, and he’s about to leave work when I heard a very quiet yelp. I wasn’t sure if it was my imagination and continued calling for Raja, and I heard another sound. I call for him again, and finally, I realize he somehow got himself trapped in the shoe closet, as the door closed, and he got stuck behind our shoes in the process! He nearly gave me a heart attack that day, but we had quite the reunion after that was filled with crying and a lot of kissing!
