The Founder of Ben & Boule Trading & His Pups
By The Get Leashed Doggy Style Team
A career in fashion is highly sought after yet elusive for many, but for entrepreneur Ben Schubert, founding his own company to represent and bring high-end, international brands to Canada was the perfect path. Although his busy work and travel schedule is demanding, Ben is also a passionate dog lover who always finds time for his gorgeous rescue Pit Bulls and newest addition to the brood, an adorable Frenchie named Carter. Read on as we get to know this dog trio and their dynamic dad.
Hi Ben. What’s your day to day like, running your own business?
Many meetings! Meetings with the buyers at retailers such as Hudson’s Bay and Holt Renfrew, meeting with some of the brands I represent, meeting with my PR agency and meeting with internal staff are only some of the players I work with on a regular basis. I also travel a lot, as the majority of the brands I work with are abroad. During my travels I keep my eyes open for new brands to bring to Canada as well. What’s vacation?
Please tell us a bit about your dogs. How did they come into your life? Is there a story behind the names or particular breeds?
I have three! Two are rescue Pit Bulls, one is a French Bulldog! I rescued the Pit Bulls right before they would have been going to the SPCA and the French Bulldog was so my girlfriend would leave me alone.
How would you describe your personal style?
I’m a big supporter of the brands that I represent and not just because they’re in our portfolio. In fact, they’re in our portfolio in the first place because I travel the world looking for brands that I think are special and would do well in our market. I really like high-end contemporary fashion. Not all guys are accessories guys, but I definitely am. Great eyewear from KOMONO and jewelry from Miansai is key!
How does this translate to the look and feel of your home?
Unless you mean my office which is my real home then it doesn’t translate at all. I’m pretty simple when I leave the fashion world of my day to day!
What does your ideal weekend look like?
Up North. Fire places and smores. I love to keep it easy since my day to day schedule can get a little crazy.
What are some of your favorite dog brands?
Haha by this do you mean dog breeds? Pit Bulls and Frenchies. But for brands, I buy them all natural organic food only… one of my dog has allergies so nothing but this works for me.
Do you have any favorite dog-friendly hangouts in Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver?
Dog run in Westmount, Montreal near my house.
What inspires you?
Music, new fashion trends, happy people, and good wine!
Finally, can you leave us with a funny story about your dogs?
They literally will not sleep alone… all 3 will pile into one bed together at all times… no joke they are inseparable.
