Dogs Need Vitamin D too! Whether your dachshund is so pampered he packs a week’s worth of bow ties for a weekend trip, or your sporty terrier sneaks Gatorade when you’re not watching, The Resort at Pedregal is the sun destination they flip for, and you will simply love. Upon arrival in the grand lobby, we are graciously greeted with chilled, scented hand towels and hand blown glassware brimming with a refreshing rum cocktail. Our bags are swiftly taken to the suite, and the receptionist at the front desk personally tours us around the sprawling resort. Leave it to this top notch hotel team to cater to your every whim and wiggle in style.

Your journey begins as you emerge from a James Bond worthy tunnel carved into a formidable mountain to discover paradise. The Resort at Pedregal lies on Cabo San Lucas’ most coveted parcel of land – an extraordinary, 24-acre site at the southernmost tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. The exclusive haven, accessible only by the private Dos Mares tunnel, is mere minutes from the allure of downtown Cabo San Lucas. Yet, a true sanctuary awaits, due to its prized perch on the literal “other side of a mountain”. The geological feature forms a fortress of stature and luxury.

The resort recently landed a major coup, named Best Resort Hotel, Mexico in the 2017 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards readers’ survey. In addition to achieving this No. 1 place on the World’s Best list with a score of 96.88, the resort was also awarded the No. 28 spot in the 100 Best Hotels in the World ranking.

Baja is an adventure playground for Canadians, in the way Spain functions for the British. Sun worshipers come to let their hair down and get sweetly toasted on gorgeous tequilas. These coastal towns have a mythical status in the surf and sporty biking tribe, due to the the Baja 1000 race that started in the 1960s – it was edgy and the definition of cool, with the likes of Steve McQueen on board to boot.

With General Manager Fernando Flores at the helm, the resort takes discretion to the next level. Pedregal has successfully hosted secluded, hush hush stays for the likes of Lady Gaga and Jared Leto. Flores has created a virtually paparazzi proof zone, a far cry from the other look-at-me hotspots in Cabo. Basically, this is where Boo, the world’s most famous Pomeranian would go if he wanted to escape the incessant flashbulbs capturing his every move.

Don Manuel, the resort’s signature restaurant offers an encompassing experience reminiscent of old world Mexico. Its cuisine is endowed with a sense of place, offering organic produce grown specifically for the restaurant and prepared in traditional hacienda style with a contemporary twist. Tucked into the cliffs of the Pedregal Mountain, I loved El Farallon, full stop. The dramatic venue hovers over the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean; the entrance resembles a coastal fishmonger’s market stocked daily with bounty from local fishermen. Various selections from the day’s catch are displayed market style on ice or La Panga accompanied by local experts available to assist you in your decision.

The impossibly posh resort spoils the sophisticated traveler with a number of luxurious choices including ocean view guestrooms, beachfront suites, bi-level casitas and hillside villas, each with its own private plunge pool and Personal Concierge. Guests can spend their days indulging in the beachfront boutique’s large main pool, the 12,000-square-foot spa, Luna y Mar, where signature treatments are based on the cycles of the moon.

With an eye-catching design sensibility that mixes gleaming driftwood slabs and creamy textiles alongside a distinctively contemporary ethos, Pedregal made a splashy debut in a hub where accommodations veer toward the traditional. Rooms here are positively residential in feel, which makes it an ideal resort to bring your pooch. There is so much space and so many places to kick back. A private plunge pool and a discreet patio with lounge chairs strategically positioned to take in the sweeping views.

The bathing pavilion within the suite is the standout here; it’s so very large and divine, it feels like a retreat within a retreat. A deep soaking tub and a sculptural shower make the marble accented bathroom a regal retreat. It’s the very definition of bathroom goals. Moreover, every day at 4 pm, housekeeping drops off two Coronas and a mortar of perfectly piquant guacamole and freshly made tortilla chips. We happened to notice that this delivery fits perfectly into the over-the-tub amenity tray in case you wish to snack in the bath, Because, you know, Cabo Hedonism. Well played, Pedregal.
