Brooklyn 99 isn’t your typical crime show. Yes, there’s “crime”, but it mostly revolves around the 99 squad with lead detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), Captain Raymond Holt (Andrew Braugher), and Sergant Terry Jeffords, played by none other than Old Spice spokesman Terry Crews. Since its debut in 2013, Brooklyn 99 has taken comedy to a different level with most of its main characters being people of color and people of  sexual orientations besides only straight #win! Notably, there are three women who are part of the main cast and are all women of color – Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz, and Chelsea Peretti. All together, they make an amazing cast and prove that the makeup of a TV show doesn’t have to follow an old formula.

In the series, Captain Raymond Holt and his husband, Kevin Cozner, have an adorable Corgi named Cheddar. His antics include: exposing Amy, Jake, and Sarge hiding in the Captain’s bathroom through Amy’s allergies of dogs, running away to the park unbeknownst to dog-sitters Amy, Jake and Charles, and being a part of the annual Halloween Heist!

In season 2, we learn that Charles has two Rottweilers and an extra-humpy Bulldog named Jason. In the third season, Jason crosses the rainbow bridge.

To try and get Charles to get over Jason’s death, Rosa tries to give him a puppy, but falls in love with him instead – how could you not!

Thus concludes the dogs on Brooklyn 99, now on to the real life pups of the stars!

1. Terry Crews

Terry Crews who plays Sergeant Terry Jeffords on Brooklyn 99 is probably familiar to people for various reasons. He’s the Old Spice guy, he’s sings Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” in White Chicks beautifully, and have you seen his body???

Terry and his wife Rebecca King-Crews have two dogs: a rescue Pitty mix named Jasper who is seen guarding Terry’s gift to his wife and a Labrador Retreiver named Spinee. Spinee recently underwent surgery and is recovering at home!

2. Melissa Fumero

Melissa Fumero plays Amy Santiago and is a new (human) mom to a baby boy! Melissa’s beloved French Mastiff rescue, Bella, crossed the rainbow bridge in 2014. Gone, but not forgotten, you can see photos of Bella and Fumero on her Instagram!

3. Joe Lo Truglio

Joe Truglio, who plays Jake Peralta’s best friend on the show, has a fluffy rescue named Floyd. He and his wife, Beth Dover, rescued the puppy in Los Angeles. He was rescued from a pen with eight Chihuahuas and the couple fell in love. Floyd has a new baby human brother who is absolutely adorable!

4. Stephanie Beatriz

Rough and wild, Stephanie plays tough chick Rosa Diaz. In real life, Stephanie is a sweetheart who loves dogs. Unfortunately, her rescue pup, Banjo, passed away.

Stephanie doesn’t let people forget about him – she posts his photos regularly and has his face permanently on her body!

Banjo, as a senior pup, would hang around Steph on set and take a much needed old man nap on her lap in between takes.

Stephanie recently got engaged to her fiance, Brad Hoss. She uses her social media to promote the adoption of senior dogs like Banjo!

5. Chelsea Peretti

Last, but not least, is the hilarious comedian Chelsea Peretti. Acting as the sassy Gina Linetti, Gina keeps the rest of the characters grounded by being the only “non-policeman” in the crew.

Her pup is a rescue, but he doesn’t have a name for the public to know. In an interview with Socal Pulse, Linetti says that she doesn’t want people to be able to call him in public.

So she and her husband, Jordan Peele, refer to him as baby. But, they are expecting a new baby very, very soon. So, her pup will no longer be the only baby in the house!
