The Body Shop, created in 1976, has stood firm and taken pride in their role as an advocate against animal testing. They were, however, the victim of accusation after L’Oreal bought the company in 2006.

L’Oreal has claimed it stopped animal testing with its products since 1989, but L’Oreal still sells its products in China where animal testing is required for some products.

In recent years, L’Oreal has taken steps to ensure its products made and sold in China no longer used animal testing. Due to the fact that L’Oreal still trades with China prevents them from joining PETA’s cruelty-free list. Last year, L’Oreal announced that it would sell The Body Shop to Brazilian make-up company, Natura.

The Body Shop and Cruelty Free International will continue to use their platforms and allies – both dog and human – to take a stand against animal cruelty.
