With Her Mini Schnauzer Mix Logan Unleashed

By The Get Leashed Doggy Style Team

There’s no doubt that Toronto is a city of dog lovers. Our friends Unleashed in the City, like us, enjoy hosting dog-friendly events to bring people and pets together. Their annual Howloween Pup Parade is one we look forward to each year, and that’s how we met Jen and Logan, who you may recognize from his dog modelling for a well-known Canadian dog outerwear brand. Inspired by the movie It, Logan, a mini Schnauzer mix, won scariest costume, although we think he’s more adorable than spooky. We got to sit down with Jen and Logan to chat all things pooch. Get to know more about these two below, and check out our favorite shots of them at home!

Please tell us about yourself, your profession, and what a typical work day is like:

Patrick and I have been married for just over 3 years but have known each other since high school. We both love to travel and have taken vacations all over the world with the most memorable being Croatia, Amsterdam Hawaii, Thailand, and Japan. When we’re not on vacation, we keep an active lifestyle with running being a central focus. We run with Parkdale Roadrunners weekly and have trained for half and full marathons.

As for our work life, I’m a Client Marketing Specialist at LoyaltyOne working with key Retail Partners with the AIR MILES® Reward Program. During the workweek, you’ll find me executing marketing campaigns in a variety of channels including email, web, and mobile. The best part of my job is seeing these campaigns come to life all the way from conception to being in market and in store.

Patrick is a Senior Graphic Designer at Performance Publications Media Group. He puts his creative skills to work on their portfolio of brands including PASMAG and Ignition publications. Patrick has also worked on special projects including the 2016 PanAM Games, Honda Indy, Rogers Cup Tennis, and Canadian Olympic Team Fan Guide.

Logan also dabbles in the work life as a Fit and Feedback model for Canada Pooch helping the team perfect the right measurements for new dog clothes. You can also catch him at the occasional photo shoot wearing items from the latest Canada Pooch collection.

Please tell us a bit about Logan. How did he come into your life? Is there a story behind the name or breed mix?

We always wanted a dog but wanted to wait for the right time to welcome one into our home. We have always had a soft spot for Mini Schnauzers, as we were certain their personality, temperament, and size would be perfect for our lifestyle. Not to mention we’re suckers for little dogs with beards!

It was December 2015 when we reached out to Rosewood Pet Resort to see if they had any dogs available as part of their Forever Home Program. To our surprise, we heard back right away because a family had dropped off a Mini Schnauzer / Yorkie mix that they could no longer care for. A couple days later, we met Sparky and immediately fell in love with him. We were anticipating our dog search to take a long time, but within a week of our initial inquiry we were dog owners and we couldn’t be happier with our little guy!

After getting to know him, we decided that the name Sparky didn’t quite capture his personality. We decided to rename him Logan after Wolverine from X-Men as he reminded us of the scruffy and tough (but lovable) superhero.

What kind of dog community events do you and Logan take part in?

We always look forward to Unleashed in the City’s community events because it’s a chance to meet other pups and get dressed up! Logan’s favorite event is the Howl-o-ween Pup Costume Party and Parade. Last year it was a bit rainy, so Logan dressed up as little Georgie from the movie IT wearing a bright yellow raincoat with a red helium balloon. He ended up winning for the scariest costume and this Doggy Style Feature was his prize!

How would you describe your personal style?

Casual and comfortable, you can usually find both of us in sneakers.

How would you describe the look and feel of your home?

Our home is comfy, bright, and filled with pictures of our travels. One of the first things that attracted us to our condo was the amount of natural light in our unit and the Queen West neighborhood.

What does your ideal weekend look like?

Our weekends usually kick off with a run through downtown Toronto. There’s nothing like completing a run when most people are just waking up! Most of our weekends are pretty low key, revolving around family and friends, or just staying downtown to check out the latest weekend festival.

Logan also benefits on the weekends with long walks to nearby dog parks or to the lakeshore. He’s also used to us taking lots of pictures of him for his Instagram account: @logan_unleashed.

What inspires you?

Many of our sparks of inspiration have come from listening to a variety of podcasts; more specifically the Rich Roll podcast. There is something about listening to stories about people doing extraordinary things and pursuing their dreams. You can’t help reflect on your own life and make positive changes after hearing these uplifting stories.

Finally, can you leave us with a funny story about Logan?

You could say Logan acts like a child sometimes. One fun fact about Logan is he hates bedtime. Every night when we say “it’s time for bed”, he becomes dead weight, won’t move muscle, and pretends he doesn’t hear us. Logan will do anything to stay up past his bedtime. We’ll indulge him a bit and play along, as we can’t help but chuckle at his reaction each night.
