Nothing will set your heart straight faster than doing the right thing for some furry friends.

Hollywood celebrities are just like us – they get married, have kids, adopt pets, and all too often, they divorce. Lately, it seems like everyone is breaking up, especially some of my favorite celebrity couples. Being in the public eye must add a particular strain to a relationship – people gossiping in equal measure about stories that are true and those that are fabricated.

One of my favorite Friends stars, 49-year old Jennifer Aniston separated from Justin Theroux after being married for two years, and together for seven. Fortunately, the couple agreed to share custody of their four dogs. Justin resides in New York with one of the former couple’s Pit Bulls, while Jennifer lives in Los Angeles with Dolly (white shepherd mix), Clyde (terrier), and Sophie (Pit Bull mix).

Where has this former power couple been hiding since announcing their split? Social media accounts from both camps have been totally silent…until recently.  Justin has just poked his head up to give a needed push to one very deserving animal shelter.

The 46-year old film producer and actor posted a photoshoot with adorable puppies after visiting Austin Pets Alive, a dog shelter in Texas. In his post, he praised the shelter, “I cannot understand how they do what they do, day after day, so consistently and lovingly to save so many dogs and cats. I HIGHLY recommend going in and getting your nose bit by a toothless baby Pitbull.”

Justin, who is an avid animal lover, has been supporting the shelter for some time. The star of The Leftovers recently donated $10,000 dollars from his winnings from a game played on The Ellen Show. Austin Pets Alive shelter has a mandate to prevent the euthanization of adoptable pets. Justin even tagged Selena Gomez in the post to get more exposure for the shelter.  Selena, also a dog lover, has adopted six rescues.

Animal advocacy is prominent in Justin’s Instagram feed, including plugs for no-kill shelters across the country. He frequently posts beautiful and touching photos with the dogs he meets and loves. I hope he finds solace in the company of his furry friends. It’s not easy getting over a broken heart.

Remember, you don’t have to be a celebrity to support great causes that help millions of animals around the world! There are many small ways to help #adoptdontshop.
