It’s been said that Schaller captures the emotion of dogs as if they were people. Certainly, the personality and character in his animal photography is undeniable. Viewing the subjects of his work, some of whom are homeless, is an experience that draws one into the joys and struggles of the individual dog. It is a momentary connection and recognition that would otherwise be missed entirely.

Some of the most moving pictures in the series (like the photo above), were captured in India. This country has a significant problem with stray dog populations, estimated to be in the millions.  Alan developed a loving bond with his subjects, some of whom would wait outside his hotel and follow him throughout his days.

Alan advocates for the stray animals featured in this work, recommending fans donate to the RSPCA in his native U.K.

It is his deep respect for animals, in their own space, that gives Alan this incredible gift to capture raw and wholly authentic images.

As Alan is based in the U.K., he shone a special spotlight on London dogs. These appear in the pluckiest of poses. Just have a look at that British Bulldog!
