There is nothing like being proud of where you come from and who you are. As an immigrant living in Canada, I return to my roots as I teach my son to be proud of where he comes from, what he has accomplished, and to be grateful for his life. I admire celebrities who, even though they have fame and fortune, remember their humble beginnings and are thankful for the support they have received from their fans.

One of my favorite celebrities is Eva Longoria. How can we forget her role as Gabrielle Solis on the hit show Desperate Housewives? Eva has such as big heart and is always at fundraising events supporting those in need. The “Eva Longoria Foundation” shows the philanthropist side of this Mexican-American actress. Yes, she is a proud LATINA!!

Eva’s foundation helps Latinas create a better quality of life for themselves and their families through education and entrepreneurship. She also co-founded Eva’s Heroes, a San Antonio non-profit that helps developmentally delayed children. And it doesn’t stop there – this amazing actress, producer, and activist is the spokesperson for Padres Contra el Cancer, an organization supporting Latino Families raising children with cancer.

Eva Longoria, who will soon become a mom, loves her dogs as much as she loves her family and fans. If you aren’t already, you’ve got to follow Eva’s social media accounts for the most adorable pictures of her dogs!

Eva dreamed of becoming a model, but she was turned away by many fashion agencies because of her 5”2 stature.  Growing up, Eva was called ‘la prieta fea’ which means the ‘the ugly dark one’.

This Texas native tapped into her passion for cooking by publishing a cookbook in 2011, called Eva’s Kitchen: Cooking with Love for Family and Friends.

Eva is a former beauty queen and was crowned Miss Corpus Christi in March, 1998. During this time, she also competed in a talent show in Los Angeles, which she won. Eva decided to stay in California to pursue an acting career. What a great decision!

Mexican food is her favorite; she loves tacos. Ever stylish, Eva is obsessed with wearing jeans and includes them in her wardrobe staples along with blazers and heels.

In an interview with Marie Claire Magazine, Eva said the only negative about her job was “loss of anonymity and having people not really know you for you.” Eva adds she would like to see more women directors and more female leads in roles. “We have got to increase women’s perspectives and voices”.

“There are hundreds of languages in the world, but a smile speaks them all”. ~~ Eva Longoria Bastón
