Toronto’s PetSet arrived in style for an exclusive, dog-friendly première of a heart-melting RomCom.

Torontonians are deep in the Dog Days of summer now. Heat shimmers off the pavement, savory aromas from patio BBQs meander down the street, and the bells of an ice cream truck cut through thick humidity, offering sweet reprieve. This is the time of year that the light changes to gold and the days grow shorter. We’ve already done all of the ‘summer things’ (twice) and the kids are bored, while pets grumble over being kept indoors through yet another heat wave. Yes, August is the time of year that the City flocks to the movie theater to wait out the change of season.
And we have the perfect, crowd pleasing, date-enhancing summer offering in Dog Days! It is sweet yet poignant, entertaining yet substantial, furry and funny, romantic and tear jerking. We recommend that you brave the City heat to get out to see this one.
In late July, Elevation Pictures welcomed pets and pet parents into the TIFF Bell Lightbox Theatre for a dog-friendly screening of their summer blockbuster, Dog Days. In the star-studded, invite-only event, we got the rare pleasure of watching dogs walk the “green carpet” for a photo op with lead actor, Adam Pally.
Dog Days isn’t your average dog-gratuitous, RomCom. It’s the real deal. After seeing countless doggy movies, the Get Leashed team is confident in our professional assessment: Dog Days is the film that modern pet owners have been waiting for. This is a movie that “gets it.” And by “gets it,” we mean, it understands that special relationship we have with our four-legged besties.
The humor factor is dialed all the way up in this film with pet parent relatable content. But worry not, as the kiddies aren’t to be left out either! Dog Days manages to keep the jokes PG, making it a great choice for a family night out.
Jam packed with Hollywood talent the likes of Nina Dobrev, Vanessa Hudgens, Eva Longoria and Adam Pally, Dog Days doesn’t disappoint for star gazing and great acting. The characters are lighthearted and engaging enough to make this both a great first date film and a much needed escape from the angst of today’s seemingly unending news cycle.
Dog Days tells a series of winding tails (excuse us, we mean TALES) that highlight various aspects of the dog/owner relationship. It is all told through the misadventures of a venturesome pug, a mischievous doodle, a quirky chihuahua, and a couple of lovable mutts (and, of course, their owners). The film explores subjects close to every pet owners’ heart by way of several story-lines that come together to create an arching, cohesive narrative. This paired with well-crafted writing, that so accurately captures the experience of pet ownership itself, makes this the one movie every pet parent should put on the must-see list for this month!
The film opens in Theaters across North American on Friday, August 10, 2018 and tickets can be secured by checking your local listings.
So, do yourselves a favor and go see this film. You may not leave dry-eyed but you will leave pleasantly surprised.
Thank us later!
